I didn't believe it even after I saw it. A man was arrested for reading the bible. the BIBLE! Not only that, but the cop arrested the guy for "impeding an open business" Which is bull since the courthouse was CLOSED AT THE TIME HE READ THE PASSAGES! He wasn't impeding anything!



Let's pray for these brave men who dared practice their freedom of religion in spite of a downright tyrannical police officer.

Jesus Did not Speak English...Well DUH!!!

Even in faith based documents I find left wing lunacy, it seems. My fiancé just gave me a book with an article inside it entitled Jesus did not Speak English. My Loony senses went off almost immediately, and I delved inside, giving the article a read. From a purely faith based perspective, the article makes a good deal of sense. Until it actually starts talking about it’s intended subject matter, that is. What is that subject matter, exactly? Well, it’s illegal immigration. Yep. That’s right. Illegal immigration. Somehow, some way, the person that wrote this article equates the teachings of Jesus Christ with an open borders philosophy. How, you ask? Well, like most misguided souls who try to use scripture to make their point, he cherry picks the scripture he needs while completely ignoring common sense, as well as other, equally valid scriptural arguments.

Item one: he puts the caption “Jesus did not speak English” on a marquee outside the church she goes to. Several comments that graced his mail after that included remarks about how obvious it was that the Savior of course didn’t speak English, given that English was not yet a language. Apparently he didn’t realize at the time that people might misconstrue his message’s intent, which was that Jesus didn’t speak English, and therefore he wouldn’t have persecuted illegal immigrants because of their own inability to speak it. What?

Item 2: The people who complained apparently did so because they wanted to perpetuate some myth about Jesus speaking English and agreeing with their way the world worked. That in and of itself is somewhat ludicrous, since the world didn’t work the same way in the first century that it now works in the 21^st. Sure, the basics are the same, but all the complexities are different. Anyway, on with my point. He bases this assessment on absolutely nothing, implying, in my view, that people who believe in Jesus automatically believe that he was whatever ethnicity the individual complainer was, spoke English, and believed everything that that individual believed and nothing else. And of course, no evidence to support this crackpot theory, either. Oy.

Item 3: The cherry picked Scripture quotes. You knew they were coming. Second column of the first page of the article brings up the idea of persecuting the stranger, which is what appears to be the crux of the article. She makes reference to the Israelites, specifically:

Exodus 23:9: You shall not oppress a resident alien; you know the heart of an alien, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

Leviticus 19:34: the alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

Deuteronomy 24:17: You shall not deprive a resident alien of justice.

Icing on the cake is Matthew 25:43: I was a stranger, and you did not welcome me.

For those who are unaware, Exodus and Leviticus both deal specifically with the Jews and their time in the desert after Moses led them out of Egypt. God is warning the Israelites in that verse that they were once strangers, and so had better not treat other strangers the way Pharaoh treated them. Good advice, but last time I checked it isn’t the same thing as dissolving a nation’s borders and allowing any Tomas, Ricardo and Enrique to come in without learning their motives.

The article goes on to state the obvious, telling readers that already believe in God that he is the God of Creation, and therefore everyone on the planet is a brother or sister in Christ. Of course they all are! In his assessment, though, the pastor neglects to mention yet another piece of Scripture, dealing specifically with the division of responsibilities and reverence concerning God and man. Namely, “Render unto Ceasar that which is Ceasar’s. Render unto God that which is God’s.” Last time I checked, nations had a responsibility to police their borders and keep an eye on who comes in here. At least, every other country in the world seems to be able to police their borders without getting flak for being racist. Having an official language does not mean you have an inherent dislike towards outsiders. Having an official language, in fact, would make things easier to communicate because EVERYONE IN THE COUNTRY WOULD SPEAK THE SAME LANGUAGE!!! Why is that so difficult for “open borders” types to understand?

The pastor even acknowledges in the article that “government runs more efficiently if our law, rules, and regulations are effectively communicated.” Great. I agree. Unfortunately he ruins it by saying in the same breath: “Why would we hamstring our elected leaders by requiring that they act as if a language barrier did not exist?” What? When did wanting an official language for the country equate to ignoring the fact that a language barrier existed? If we were doing that, why would we have implemented the Ellis Island program a hundred years ago? If we were truly ignoring a language barrier, we wouldn’t bother even letting these people in the country in the first place! We’d just seal off the borders and force people to cross illegally (which they already do anyway, btw).

Another question I have is this: Why, as the article implies in its attitude, is enforcing immigration law automatically lumped in with a lack of hospitality? People who are here illegally have shown us what they think of our country’s laws by BREAKING THEM! Why are we not allowed to be more like Joe Arpaio in Arizona and enforce our immigration laws? Mexico has downright draconian laws. Laws so fiercely enforced that the flow of South American illegals is significantly less than that of Mexico itself, largely because the SAs are afraid of being caught by the Federales!

Basing an argument entirely on faith is doomed to failure, as this one was. Not that I have anything against the priest, mind you, but come on! We can’t enforce our border laws because to do so would be un-Christian? What if a terrorist with a dirty bomb slipped in and blew up a school full of Catholic kids? Would that make the guy change his mind? I certainly hope so!

And so do I, your humble Crusader for constitutional justice. Another Christmas has arrived and, as I sit and wait for the better half and her mother to wake so we can ope gifts before heading up to my parents' house, I have yet another video to share. Imagine, if you will. what things would have been like if the wisemen, Mary, Joseph, and others had access to such things as Google Maps, Twitter, and Facebook to spread their message of hope:

Everything Matters, Except that Nothing Really Does

My mother continually tried to drill that into my head over recent months, wherein I was dealing with more than a little depression over the fact that I'm pushing thirty and still haven't decided what I want to do with the life God gave me. As the sentence is an obvious paradox (how can everything matter if nothing does?) it took more than just mental prowess to puzzle it out. Of course, that didn't stop me from trying to analyze the statement from every intellectual angle I could before causing my brain to overheat and myself to give up in anger over not being able to solve the riddle.

Enter two friends of mine who attend the United Methodist Church here in Roseville, California. They invited my fiance and me to their Christmas Eve service, which we've just returned from, and I'm still aglow with the injection of faith I received by being around others who believed as I did, that Jesus Christ was born to save the world from its own sins, and that those who accepted Christ into their hearts would join him and his Father in Paradise.

Obviously, this proved to be just the prescription I needed to shed a good deal of the poison I'd been ingesting in the form of "all politics all the time." unfortunately this meat also hearing about the constant attacks on people of faith by those who don't believe, and even some who do. Needless to say, a steady stream of negative stories concerning your core beliefs can wear away at your resolve.

And yet, like the cavalry arriving at the last reel of an old "cowboys and Indians" flick, I was rescued not by soldiers on horses, but by songs of praise for the Son of God. Hearing "Angels we have Heard on High", "Oh Come all Ye Faithful", and other spiritual tunes filled me with the holiday cheer that, despite my efforts to spread it here in various other posts, I wasn't feeling very much of. Fortunately, that's changed, just in time for Jesus's birthday. As far as I'm concerned, that's the best Christmas gift of all: learning and relearning the real reason we celebrate this day and being able to fully appreciate it as a result.

That said, I will once again be delving into the poisonous realm of politics once the holiday season is over, as the bad doesn't go away just because you've been exposed to the good. However, I think I'll be able to go through it now with a more open perspective. I've always been a big picture guy, but I think for a while now I've been missing the REAL big picture: This life only matters for as long as it lasts. Eternity is forever.

The ACLU Would Have a Field Day

I just read, in the sports section of the Sacramento Bee, my local toilet rag of a newspaper, a very heartwarming and uplifting story. Apparently, a coach that was overseeing a football game between two high schools, Woodcreek High (my old stomping grounds) and another who I do not remember the name of at present, had a heart attack a number of years ago while doing his job. Apparently something happened which had "turned his heart to jelly" as he put it, and caused it to stop beating. He was rushed to the hospital and is now back doing the job that he loves.

This is not, however, a post about that coach, or his condition, or even the game that I mentioned at which he suffered his heart attack. No, what I'm bringing attention to is what the crowd, players, faculty, and students all did when they saw the man collapse in the middle of the game.

They prayed.

That's right. They prayed. On public high school grounds. As one, the entire population of the stadium, numbering in the tens of thousands, if memory serves, dropped to their knees and begged the Lord our God that this man would come out okay, and the man upstairs was listening, it seemed, because He granted their wish.

Can anyone tell me what would have happened if the ACLU had heard of this? I wonder what they were doing causing them to miss this...they usually jump all over teh chance to sue anyone having anything to do with religion.

Christianity: The Only Religion you can Hate With Impunity

I am and always have been a firm believer in religious principals. I am, like all other humans on the planet, fallible and a sinner, yet what separates me from certain human beings is that I believe that my transgressions are forgiven thanks to my devotion to the Savior, Jesus Christ, the son of God in Heaven. This does not mean that I consider myself better or superior to any other human on the planet. What it does mean, is that I have been given a chance at redemption through God’s Grace, and I will unshakably declare that to anyone who asks.

In the mind of some, this makes me a hateful bigot because of certain tenants within that faith, such as the Catholic church’s aversion to homosexuality, pedophilia, abortion, gay marriage, and a host of other hot button issues. Apparently it is narrow-minded and hateful to believe that these particular acts and practices are wrong, with feminists calling you against women’s rights if you oppose abortion, to the simple cry of RACIST or more appropriately BIGOT if you oppose, as I do, gay marriage and homosexuality. Now, of course, the practice of homosexuality will not go away, but that doesn’t mean I have to find it appropriate public behavior. Having standards in today’s world is among the highest crimes and misdemeanors of unwritten cultural law.

I bring this up because, yet again, the so-called “artistic” community has struck, using a piece of “art” erroneously entitled “Moral Values”, which consists of a painting of the Holy Bible (which version is not specified). Now, this would normally be a cause for the LEFT to be up in arms. I mean, after all, a Bible on public grounds is fast becoming a crime punishable by lynching, or worse, by Barbara Streisand. Cheap shots aside, the reason that the RIGHT is up in arms about this is because underneath the painting of the bible is painted the words “Warning: May impair judgment.” What, does this artist think herself some sort of anti-religious surgeon general, or something?

I make no apologies for the smart ass nature of those two remarks, by the way. Political correctness is no longer an effective filter for me, and shouldn’t be for anyone, really. But guess what would have happened if this had been a painting of the Quran? That’s right, boys and girls, the left would have been OUTRAGED at the very IDEA that someone would think that the tenants of Islam are somehow able to brainwash people into losing their sense of judgment. If only we could find out if that were true…oh, wait, it is. Those Maddrassas aren’t just for show, boys and girls.

The story comes from my local toilet rag, the Sacramento Bee, though admittedly it’s better than most newspapers out there. That’s right, I’m looking at you, New York Times. And saying that the Bee is better than the New York Times is like saying Al Sharpton is less racist than David Duke. And don’t go telling me Sharpton isn’t a racist either. You can have black skin and be racist. It’s true, I swear.

Now again, imagine if this had been a painting of the Quran with the same words. How much outrage do you think the left would have generated if that had been the case? A lot? That doesn’t even begin to describe it.

Still, this gives me cause for hope. A year ago a story like this wouldn’t have even been newsworthy, yet here it is in a widely read newspaper, admittedly only in one state, but it happens to be the most populous state in the country. Are we making a comeback to our old school principals? Signs like this tell me yes, we are, however, the indignant attitudes of the so-called “artist” who put this piece of trash up give me cause to believe also that much more work remains to be done before a reawakening of religious principals can occur. She is quoted as saying, in the article, “I came to the conclusion that there must be something about religious faith that renders people stupid.” Her exact words, I swear. Google the name Jeri Wyrick and you might find this very story online. I don’t know as I haven’t looked yet, but that’s beside the point.

The point is that in addition to this person being a moron, the justification for leaving it up is that only one person complained. Excuse me? Only one person complained so it’s okay to leave up a piece of anti-Christian art? How many times have Christmas displays had to undergo complete overhauls just because ONE person MIGHT have been offended off in some parallel universe somewhere? Huh? How many? DOZENS, that’s how many. At least.

Rant aside, this article was both informative and revealing. Revealing in the sense that it points out the stupidity of the leftist agenda to remove religion from the public square, and informative because it tells me that for Christianity to once again draw attention in the media beyond use of the phrase “religious right”, it must be creeping back into the forefront of our consciousness again. That would certainly be a welcome change. We have strayed far too long on the path away from God, and will only achieve greatness again when we deliver ourselves into His hands.

I know that last bit sounded preachy, but it’s still true. This I believe with all my might.

UPDATE: I just read in TODAY'S version of the Bee that that garbage has been sold. Someone bought the thing for 500 bucks. Paltry sum where art is concerned. Apparently someone who shares the artists views decided to buy it. This now becomes a non-issue in the eyes of the media.

I'll Take Religious Principals for 100, Alex

The Bible is being taught as historical literature in a California public School. It's finally begun. After years of repression of our religious history as a nation, it begins to creep ever so slowly back to the forefront, making tiny baby steps at first, but if those steps continue, it will likely snowball into a full blown repeal of every anti-religious hyper-secular law ever passed by any rogue activist judge in the country. That's my prediction, at least, and best case scenario at that. But anyway, this is a good start, I think, and I hope to see an upward swing in this trend. As someone who has had his faith shaken quite a bit recently, I know that it is more important than ever to hold onto that faith, lest everything else be lost.

This would merit little attention by me beyond the initial "wow that's cool" except for the fact that Texas has already introduced a similar initiative in an elective class that they've put on their curriculum just a year or two ago, I believe. That story can be found here.

On a less positive note regarding religion in the world today, there is this story, via Jihad Watch and The Other McCain.

The story basically says that some nutjob Imam or cleric or whatever these backward thugs call themselves, called on Australian Muslims to forsake their own country because the democratic process is forbidden, and that Allah is the sole lawmaker and all their other hate filled garbage that they spew on a daily basis. Well, let me ask you this, my burka wearing friends (term used VERY loosely), WHO DOES ALLAH EXPECT TO WRITE DOWN THOSE LAWS IF HUMANS CAN'T DO IT THEMSELVES?

Even the Christian God used humans to write laws after giving Moses the Ten Commandments on Mt. Sinai. But apparently the Bearded One is too high and mighty to have us puny humans write our own damn laws. Last time I checked, Allah wasn't handing out tablets or parchment based documents to his prophets and telling the people how to live. If he'd not going to do it, how are they going to make ANY laws unless they write them themselves, hm? Answer me that.

Even worse, our Commissar in Chief has yet again insulted the Israelis and pandered to the burka-wearing nutballs by actually saying that he believes the Israeli's are suspicious of him because of his name. his NAME. Read the full account here.
